Tibetan Spaniel Characteristics
The Tibetan Spaniel is laid-back, well matured dog, but is also known to be stubborn and independent. This breed makes a lovely family pet but can be suspicious and off-put by strangers, so early socialization with people is important. They tend to do well with other family pets, including cats and other dogs.
The Tibetan Spaniel is an easily trainable breed. They tend to have separation anxiety when left alone for any length of time, and can become destructive, so it is important to make your Tibetan Spaniel feel safe and secure when you are not home. They do well with crate training for brief periods. As natural watch dogs, they will often bark when strangers arrive at their home unannounced, so it is important to train them that this behavior is unacceptable from a young age.
This breed requires less physical activity than other breeds, and only requires a good walk every day. Since they are not a very active breed and are prone to becoming overweight, it is important to ensure they are fed an appropriate diet with the proper portion sizes they require.
Tibetan Spaniel Major Health Concerns
The Tibetan Spaniel is a healthy and hardy breed but is prone to be affected by Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and Patellar Luxation.
Tibetan Spaniel Interesting Facts
The Tibetan Spaniel has a silky-smooth coat which comes in a variety of colors, including golden, red, cream, grey, and black. They are genetically similar to the Pug, Lhasa Apso, and Pekingese, and may often be mistaken for these breeds when in a mix.
